VirtualPBX vs MightyCall

VirtualPBX Review

VirtualPBX is one of the oldest companies in the industry, having been around since 1997. They’ve had plenty of time to iron out the kinks in their service, and accordingly, have a pretty good but very technical offering.

Why is MightyCall the best alternative to VirtualPBX?

There are a lot of positives to mention when discussing VirtualPBX, including their 99.999% call reliability, 24/7 customer support, free 15-day trial, and the ability to port your number into the service not only for free but by yourself.

All in all, the company is well-known for its great software, an array of features, and solid service. However, they are far from perfect, and their plans are still among the most expensive in the VoIP market. That’s on top of the fact that the company has embraced the technical side, meaning it is unforgivingly difficult for VoIP newcomers to adjust to.

High Prices

VirtualPBX has redone its plans to offer the best of both worlds: per-user price plans and a flat price offering. Sadly, both prices are higher than industry averages, so VirtualPBX isn’t a good fit for any company on a budget.

The Spark plan, which carries a flat fee of $60 a month, comes with 3 numbers but just a 1000-minute bundle. If 3 or more people are using that regularly, 1000 will be gone in an instant.

The per-user plans are called Starter, Flex, Pro and Premier and are priced at $9, $18, $24 and $34 per user a month, respectively.

What Flex Lacks?

The Spark plan lacks a bunch of features, noticeably not including business text messaging or unlimited minutes. Flex might seem like a better bet for companies then, as it does have unlimited minutes. The catch is, the unlimited minutes is only local, as the plan has no toll-free minutes. For companies that run in multiple states, or even multiple counties, that can be a death knell as you’ll end up paying infinitely for to account for non-local calls.

Regarding features, Flex, despite having a higher price tag than MightyCall’s plan, lacks call recording, Caller ID & CNAM, any API access, and any CRM integrations/capabilities. Again, MightyCall’s $20 per user structure includes those features, unlimited toll-free numbers, and has its own CRM capabilities.

VirtualPBX demands VoIP Pros

The VoIP market is growing exponentially year after year. Many VoIP companies try to account for this by keeping things simple to attract new customers, but not VirtualPBX.

VirtualPBX embraces the complicated technical nature of VoIP to unlock its power, but that complexity simultaneously chases away lots of customers. Their solution to this is one-on-one training sessions, but if you can’t put VoIP into layman’s terms, there’s no sense in faking help for your customers. Take the training wheels off so experienced VoIP users can fiddle around how they like, or dumb it down so everyone can use your service. You can’t have both.

Conclusion

VirtualPBX has a lot going for it, but its pricing plans will be a drain on most business expense accounts. To access most of the key features and necessary toll-free minutes packages, companies need to spend $30 or $40 a user, which will result in a VoIP bill of hundreds of dollars. Unless you are a VoIP vet who wants to use all the ins and outs their own way and don’t mind paying, steer towards something more UI-friendly and affordable like MightyCall.
